Shana Tova By Email to The Conscientious, Brave Hebron Refusenik Soldiers!

Rosh Hashana approaches -- we are all busy writing our New Year's greetings. Click on this email address: sarvanei.hevron@gmail.com to send New Year's blessings to Israel's bravest and most conscientious combat soldiers!

Who are "Sarvanei Hevron"? They are the refusenik IDF combat soldiers who refused to force 14 Jewish children and babies, and their parents, out of their homes in the Jewish Community of Hebron, just a few weeks ago. You probably heard the shocking news, on August 7th, about the pogrom wreaked on the two families' homes, and on a nearby synagogue and study-house in Hebron (Hevron, in Hebrew) located 2 minutes away from the Machpela Cave, a consensus location. The pictures of the onslaught on the synagogue and study house, named for slain Jewish infant Chalhevette Fass, are below. And here are the particulars of the 14 Jewish children who were forced out of their modest homes in Hevron, similarly to the children of Gush Katif:

1 year old Elyashiv (his name means: G-d will return)
1 year old Tsur (his name means: Rock of Israel)
2 year old David, boy (named after King David, ruler of ancient Hebron)
3 year old Nechama, girl (her name means "consolation")
Yehuda, age almost 4, boy
5 year old Gilad (named after his uncle, slain security officer & father of 9)
6 year old Chen, 1st grade boy
6 year old Yisrael, 1st grade boy
7 year old Mevasseret, girl
Ayelet, 10 year old girl
Shikma, 12 year old bat-mitzva girl
15 year old Or, boy
17 year old Tsur, boy
18 year old Avital, girl
all residents of Hebron.

This pogrom -- so we at Mattot Arim heard only today from a knowledgeable American source -- was personally important to the all-powerful American President George W. Bush. This is very sad.

Now of course, most Israeli soldiers who were ordered to take place in this pogrom, simply did so. Most Israeli soldiers are, understandably enough, not willing to be humiliated and criminalized, and languish in an army prison with drug dealers and other dregs of society just because something is very wrong in Israel and in the world. In short, most Israeli soldiers are simply normal, and they cannot be faulted for that. However, a few dozen particularly brave and especially righteous Israeli soldiers REFUSED to take part in the pogrom; some came out unscathed due to the sympathy of their officers and/or army judges toward them, but approximately one-dozen of them were severely humiliated, and were sent immediately to army prison.

Can you please take just a few moments to send a warm New Years' Greeting to these tremendously brave soldiers and their fearful-but-trying-to-be-brave parents? Mattot Arim, the undersigned grassroots movement, hereby undertakes that every Rosh Hashana greeting sent to the Hebron refuseniks at sarvanei.hevron@gmail.com will reach the soldiers in question. Thank you for encouraging these very righteous and courageous young men. Remember Rosa Parks -- the Afro-American hero who defied race laws by illegally remaining seated in the "wrong" part of a bus?? These young men are the Rosa Parks of modern day Israel!! Please honor them by sending them your best.

Very Sincerely

-- Mattot Arim, an Israeli grassroots movement working toward peace-for-peace since 1992

REMINDER: SEND YOUR SHANA TOVA TO THE BRAVE IDF COMBAT SOLDIERS WHO WERE IMPRISONED BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS POGROM AND REFUSED TO OUST 14 JEWISH BABIES & CHILDREN FROM THEIR HOMES FOR NO GOOD REASON. HERE IS THE ADDRESS TO USE: sarvanei.hevron@gmail.com.
