B"H
I have reported on modest swimsuits in the past, but I think it is time for an update. At the time, two companies were just getting their feet wet (pun intended) in the modest swimsuit market--SeaSecret and Hydrochic, but now there are a few more companies around. All offer great modest swimsuits in an array of styles, colors, and prices.
For your convenience, I went through a huge list of "modest swim suit" sites, and excluded the ones that just don't work for the level of modesty required of religious Jews.
Here are the links to some of the sites I found, my impressions of their offerings, and the prices you should find on the sites. I have focused on women's suits, but most of these companies also have children's suits, and some also feature boys and men's suits.
I have included pictures when they met the modesty requirements of my page (i.e. no women in revealing clothes that plunge or show upper arms or thighs.)
Happy summer!

Beyond Words
By Michelle Nevada
I called my mother a few moments ago. She didn’t even say “Hi,” instead, as soon as she picked up the phone, she said, “How angry are you?”
“Obama bin Landen has finally tipped his hand,” I spat into the phone. “It was only a matter of time, I guess. We should have expected it.”
“Still, it was such an incredibly disrespectful thing for him to do. How could he call for ’67 borders and a Palestinian State! What was he thinking? How could he have said something like that? The agreement we had with Israel was made with America, not Bush. This was an AMERICAN agreement.”
The rest of the phone call was spent discussing the many ways that Obama had simultaneously destroyed Israel, the fictional “peace process,” and the re-election campaigns of countless Democrats across the nation.
After 45 minutes, I got off the phone feeling a little better. At least I had spoken about the pain, anger, and disappointment I felt, but it wasn’t enough. I couldn’t wait to get to a keyboard to write about my feelings. It isn’t that I need to share my thoughts with others (although that is a fortunate side-effect), it is also because it is at the keyboard where I can begin to sort out and organize my thoughts.

A Letter to a Friend and Hero
B"H
On the afternoon of this terrorist attack, I was in Israel. In fact, I was at the Yeshivat Otniel, the Yeshiva that was attacked.
I was with a group from Betar/ZOA, and we had stopped our bus at the Yeshiva to pick up some of the students who wanted to spend Shabbat with us in Safed.
Those were the lucky few students from that Yeshiva who didn't experience the terror of that evening.
We heard at the time that Noam Apter not only locked the door, but he then threw the keys behind the hot commercial stove where no one could retrieve them--protecting his friends in the dining room.
Four young men died that night--but if it weren't for him, twenty or thirty or more might have been killed.
My memory of Israel is carefully inlaid with the powerful images of the Shiva of this young man and his friends. We went to as many of the Shivas as we could to show our respect for these heros. The families were distraught, but they were also strong and forthright. Their sons--all religious, all Zionist, all learning to be soldiers--had not died in vain. They had made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their classmates and friends from terrorists.
It is my honor to print this letter.

Supreme Court to Hear Jerusalem Birth Certificate Case
B”H
Is it to “politically sensitive” to record any other city in the world? Is it too politically sensitive to record London, or Paris, or Tokyo, or Belfast?
No.
So, why is it too “politically sensitive” to acknowledge that Jerusalem is in Israel, or that any other city is in Israel?
Why is it that the United States has diplomatic relations with Israel, but won’t recognize it on a birth certificate? Why does the State Department have the audacity to deny what is fact?
Isn’t the State Department, by refusing to mention a city of birth for US citizens born in Israel, saying that Israel isn’t actually a nation? Aren’t they denying the sovereignty of Israel?
I am completely disgusted with the United States State Department and their cowardly stance on Israel.
G-d Bless the Zivotofsky family. May they succeed and bring the US to its senses!

My Sephardic Pesach Recipes, and some Pesach Websites too!
B"H
OK, I am in complete denial. Seriously, I haven't done much, and between the guilt that keeps me up at night and the laundry and kid stuff and full time job I have, I think I will have to give myself just one day to get ready (next Sunday, presumably).
Meanwhile, I will share my favorite websites and recipes with you!
Now, I hope you understand that I am proudly and completely Sephardic--which means that my recipes might have to be adapted for my dear Ashkenazi friends (mostly substituting Pesach Powdered Sugar for Regular, etc.). Some, of course, can't be adapted at all, and some don't need any adaption (like my lasagna recipe).
Without further ado . . .

Saudi Arabia: Iranian Nuclear Plant Would Be Disaster Worse than Fukushima, but Obama Won't Listen to Them, Won't Take Action to Prevent Disaster!
B"H
Even Saudi Arabia is opposed to Obama's Middle East Policies.
When will Obama stop acting like an adolescent, angry that he isn't being taken seriously, and start acting like a president? When will he realize that the intelligence information from our allies is valuable--not only to augment US intelligence, but also because relying upon their intelligence information shows trust in the competence of our allies?
Do the Israelis need to "be the man" AGAIN in this situation because the US is too afraid to upset anyone?
We are talking about the great loss of life here--not only from a rouge nation like Iran developing and (G-d forbid) using a nuclear bomb on their neighbors, but also because this technology cannot be safely by the Iranians--even for peaceful purposes.
I hope we can get through these next two years with Obama without the whole world coming apart at the seams. He is so dangerously incompetent, so seriously inept in his position.
Please, G-d, send Obama some wisdom!

Black Students Take a Stand! “The Students for Justice in Palestine’s labeling of Israel, an extremely diverse and vibrant country, as an apartheid state is not only false, but offensive.”
B"H
I am so proud to say that I teach at an HBCU! My students are the finest you will find anywhere. They find a way, or they make one.
Most of my students are conservative in their value systems, they are religious, and they are breathtakingly smart. Mostly, they are well-schooled in the lessons of history, much better schooled than any students in the state colleges where I have taught.
They have to be.
Like Jews, African Americans carry with them a painful historical legacy. This is why Jews and blacks walked hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder during the civil rights era.
Justice is most significant to those for whom Justice has been denied.
Just as Jews should speak out when the word "Holocaust" is cheapened by its application to small matters or appropriated by groups who intend only to repeat the Holocaust; African Americans must step up and object to the cheapening of the word "apartheid."
Thank you, Vanguard Leadership Group, for your stalwart and powerful statement. Thank you, HBCUs for championing the cause of JUSTICE wherever it needs to be defended.
Thank you to the black community, to the black ministers and reverends, rabbis and imams, priests and laypeople who, every day, defend Israel and her people. G-d bless you all!
Mostly, thank you to the strong and amazing students and your equally dedicated parents who cherish heritage, history, and tradition enough to choose an HBCU. You are the leaders of tomorrow, and I am honored to know you.

Rabbi Angel on Parasha Metsora
Jobs, Careers and Callings: Thoughts on Parashat Metsora, April 9, 2011
By Rabbi Marc D. Angel
Yet, when we read this week's Torah portion, we see that the cohanim had some unpleasant responsibilities. They had to examine the wounds of lepers and arrange for their purification. They had to check out clothing and houses that were struck by a leprosy-type plague. If we also consider that the tasks of the cohanim included the daily slaughtering of animals in the Tabernacle (and later in the Temples in Jerusalem), we realize that the cohanim did not always have an easy go of things.
Let us imagine how three cohanim would have described their duties:
Latest Wikileaks: (Yawn) Israel Knows Egypt's Mohammed Tantawi is an Obstacle to Peace, Israel's Military Analysis is Prophetic, and Southern Commander, Major General Yoav Galant, Thought Hamas Needs to be "Strong Enough" for Ceasefire
B"H
Wow. Reading this, understanding what Galant said, ". . . that Hamas needed to be "strong enough to enforce a ceasefire," makes me thank G-d, right now, that he is no longer the Southern Commander.
G-d forbid we would strengthen the hand of our enemy!! Hamas is not a government we should do any negotiation with. We cannot trust them, we cannot work with them, and we certainly should never strengthen them in any way!
As for the rest of the "leaks," I have to say: Israel is a democratic nation with a very vital group of journalists who investigate and comb through everything Israel is, was, and will be.
The "leaks," therefore, are not shocking in any way. These are things we already knew or expected. I think the shocking stuff comes to those nations who do not have freedom of the press, whose governments are not open, and whose leaders deal in shadows.

An Orthodox Jew Leads Toledo to a Women's National Basketball Title
From the Hardwood to Halachahttp://forward.com/articles/136770/
By Elana Sztokman
Naama Shafir, a junior guard, poured in a career-high 40 points to lead the University of Toledo to victory in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament championship. She was crowned the basketball tournament’s MVP. And then she walked about two miles home.
Shafir, an Orthodox Jew from Israel, did not want to break the Sabbath.
The University of Toledo’s 76–68 triumph over the University of Southern California on April 2 marked a historic moment for Toledo — its first postseason championship in school history. The win also marked the climax of a historic season for Shafir, the first female Orthodox Jew to earn an NCAA scholarship and to play American women’s Division I basketball
Human Rights Watch (really?) Exposes Abuse of Journalists by Hamas and Fatah
I regard HRW as an incredibly anti-Semitic group who want, more than anything, the end of Israel. They were one of the forces behind the Goldstone Report (which even Goldstone can't stand behind at this point), and they are behind the constant harassment of Jews living on Jewish land in Yesha. This group, along with Doctors Without Borders, Peace Now, and Amnesty International have been walking hand in had with terrorists, rapists, murderers, and corrupt politicians for decades--trying to convince us all that Jews are always evil and arabs are always good.
It must be REALLY bad for HRW to actually report that their heros, the "palestinians," are doing something evil. You can bet HRW will have a very difficult time doing ANYTHING with the arabs from now on. They will find themselves beaten and harassed, I'm sure.
But, I guess, when the harassment is worse when you don't say something than when you do, the scales tip. I'm sorry that it took so long. How many idealistic young college students have they bamboozled, how many silly old people have they conned, how many stupid politicians have they convinced by their artificially sweetened rhetoric?
Perhaps the tide is turning against all these arab organizations who held court with the journalists and the liberals. Now that the "arab uprisings" are happening, those journalists don't know what to do with themselves. Should they report their old buddies, or the rebels as the good guys? How shall they slant it now?
It must be really hard to write those "good guy arab/ bad guy Jew" stories these days.
Thank you, HRW, for actually sprinkling a bit of savory truth over your terrorist torte for once!

Fake "Kabbalah Center International" Facing Federal Investigation that Madonna's "Raising Malawi" Charity Funnelled Money to Cover Bergs' Luxurious Lifestyle
B”H
I am glad that the fake “Kabbalah Center” with their Insurance Salesman “rabbi” (who left his wife and eight children for his secretary), is finally getting the exposure it deserves. It appears “Raising Malawi” has finally brought down Berg.
I’m sorry if it hurt Madonna. She seems to be a truly innocent bystander who sincerely wanted to help people and was taken by some very smooth con artists. The Bergs and their ilk pose as holy people, and poach what they want from Jewish holy texts to sell to gullible (mostly) gentiles who would have found much more substance and power in simple Judaism rather than this quasi-magical fakery posing as spirituality.
Seriously, if you want to find the key to living a spiritual life, you must first start with the basics of following Jewish law: keeping kosher, keeping the Sabbath, and keeping the festivals. All spirituality starts with the physical world, with how we conduct ourselves. At Sinai we said, "We will do, THEN we will understand."
Then, after you have mastered those laws as well as you can, start studying.
Study day and night and night and day and learn Hebrew, learn all the Jewish texts. Then, when you are at a level that you can really understand the spiritual, study it with a rabbi who knows what he is saying—not some idiot who is going to sell you “instant access” without any context or understanding!
If you really really want to know, you have to push yourself to learn. There are no short cuts.
Anyone who says they can give you a short cut is lying.

A VICTORY FOR SANITY!! It's a Military Tribunal for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammed, Salih Mubarak Bin Attash, Ramzi Bin Al Shibh, Ali Abdul-Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed Al Hawsawi in murder of 2,976 people on September 11, 2001
G-d Bless the Congress of the United States of America, and the voters who had enough of Obama's crazy ideas and voted in strong conservatives!
The murderers of more than 2,976 people are being tried in a Military Tribunal (the appropriate place for a war crime)!
Attorney General Eric Holder is crying over the fact that "his hands were tied" by the congress (Thank G-d!!).
Cry on, Eric. Your loss is a victory for sanity and a promise for some measure of justice for the families of those murdered on 9/11/2001.
May Justice prevail! May those who are guilty PAY for their crimes.

$1 Billion Lawsuit Against Facebook Filed Over "Third Intifada Page." May Hashm Bring Success to This Endeavor! If Facebook Can't Find Moral Courage, Perhaps It Will Find Financial Courage!

I know Facebook has software to find these hate-pages much more quickly than my friends can find them by typing into a searchbox. There is no reason on earth why these hate pages exist but the environment of tolerance toward hating Jews which has permeated our times.
I remember, as a child, thinking "How could the Holocaust have happened? How could the German people have believed the lies that Hitler told them?" Now, living in these times, I understand perfectly how the Holocaust could have happened. Shame on every so-called "leftist" who spreads hate in the name "tolerance." You are the intolerant ones! You are the new Nazis.
Wake up, Europe! Wake up, US college students and liberals!! You are setting the stage for the murder of Jews, and when it happens (again and again), you look the other way and say, "I have nothing to do with this."
Know that the blood of the Fogel family is on your hands, know that the blood of Jews killed and injured at the bus station is on your hands! Know that the blood of Jews who are murdered in Yemen and Syria and Egypt and Iran and Iraq are on your hands. Know that the terrorists draw their strength and their money from you.
You can look away if you want, but G-d will not. You can deny responsibility, but the TRUE JUDGE will decide your guilt.

Goldstone Reconsiders His Report, Writes Editorial in the Washington Post Explaining, "If I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document."
B"H
This letter will never undue the damage that Richard Goldstone has done to Israel, but it is a start at setting the record straight.
It must have been very difficult to write this letter, to admit that what he said in the report was not the truth. He must have been compelled by the events in Israel, especially in Itamar, to write this letter.
May G-d bless him for his commitment to setting the record straight.

-----Reconsidering the Goldstone Report on Israel and war crimes
By Richard Goldstone, Friday, April 1, 8:42 PM
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/reconsidering-the-goldstone-report-on-israel-and-war-crimes/2011/04/01/AFg111JC_story.html
We know a lot more today about what happened in the Gaza war of 2008-09 than we did when I chaired the fact-finding mission appointed by the U.N. Human Rights Council that produced what has come to be known as the Goldstone Report. If I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.
The final report by the U.N. committee of independent experts — chaired by former New York judge Mary McGowan Davis — that followed up on the recommendations of the Goldstone Report has found that “Israel has dedicated significant resources to investigate over 400 allegations of operational misconduct in Gaza” while “the de facto authorities (i.e., Hamas) have not conducted any investigations into the launching of rocket and mortar attacks against Israel.”

Poll Shows Israeli Youth Will No Longer Swallow Lies of "Peace"
B"H
If I ask my child to swallow a bitter pill, and he sees results, he might do it again.
If I ask my child to swallow a bitter pill, and he sees no results, he will refuse the next time.
This is the lesson of this latest survey. Our Youth will no longer swallow that bitter pill of "Land for Peace," or "Negotiation for Peace." They know it does nothing.
It is a lesson that the "dove" parties in Israel need to take to heart. One does not promise peace at the expense of Jewish lives, one does not promise peace at the expense of Jewish homes, and one does not promise peace at the expense of Israel. Too many times we have been asked to swallow the bitter pill with the promise that "this time we will have peace."
All of those promises have resulted in nothing but the bitter taste of losing what is dear to us.
It is time we took our lives into our own hands and stopped negotiating things which can never be negotiated.
Peace is something won in war, not agreed upon, not negotiated, not promised. Our Torah teaches us that it is Pinchas, the zealous protector of Israel, who was awarded the Covenant of Peace from G-d. In Pinchas, G-d teaches what we must do.
Putting off the inevitable is useless. If we allow evil in our midst, we die. If we watch as our youth is lost to lust and greed and the corrupting influence of outsiders, we die. It is only through moral strength that we can overcome this enemy, and through that moral strength, we must strike at the heart of evil. One may scream about how Pinchas was wrong, one may lecture on the need for restraint, but, in the end, Pinchas and Pinchas alone is awarded peace.
How long must we stand at the door of the Tabernacle and watch the enemies of Israel bring immorality and evil into our camp to weaken us?
Our youth have already learned this lesson. Now, it is time for those parties in Israel, who claim to be for "peace," to make the hard choices it takes to claim that prize. We have swallowed enough of their bitter pills. It is time they swallowed the Truth.

"3rd Intifada Page" Removed by Facebook. Now, When Do All The Muslim's Boycott Facebook? I'm Waiting . . . still waiting . . . still waiting . . . When?
B"H
YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
I just wished Facebook had pulled down the page BEFORE all these crazies had a chance to read it.
However, I'm sure that Facebook's lack of movement on this issue will still make Facebook responsible for any violence that comes about from the "intifada" date mentioned on the page. They will be sued, no doubt.
If they are sued, they deserve it!
I think leaving that page up for one moment was long enough, especially after the heinous murder of the Fogel family in Itamar and the bombing in Jerusalem. Facebook showed a complete lack of responsibility, business ethics, and business sense.
Now, I am looking forward to the millions on Muslims and "palestinian" supporters who will now leave facebook. After all, isn't that what they promised us? Didn't they say they would all boycott Facebook?
Have fun! Good luck on Myspace!
Ha Ha Ha!

Facebook Won't Remove "Third Intifada" Page. OK. We Asked Nicely. Now, On To The Other Options . . .
B"H
OK. Facebook won't remove the "Third Intifada" page. I guess they are afraid of the warning that appears on the page, “If Facebook Blocked This Page... All Muslims Will Boycott Facebook For Ever!”
But should they, seriously, worry about that? Hello! I don't think all the Muslims would boycott Facebook any more than all the Jews would boycott facebook if it didn't block the page. Facebook has just become too big, too important for the spread of information.
So, why aren't they blocking it? It clearly violates the terms of service for Facebook pages, specifically Section 3, No. 6, 7, and 10:
- #6 states: "You will not bully, intimidate, or harass any user;"
- #7 states: "You will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence;" and
- #10 states: "You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory.
So, what are we left with? There are several options.
- Each of us file a separate complaint against the page citing the terms of service, as we are all victims of content which harasses, intimidates, bullies, threatens, is hateful, incites violence, contains gratuitous violence, is misleading, malicious, and discriminatory. (Here is how you file that complaint: http://www.facebook.com/communitystandards).
- Each person in Israel who is harmed in any way--physically, psychologically, or economically--retain a US law firm who will launch a class-action lawsuit against Facebook in order to win compensation for said terrorist activities due, in part, to the existence of this page. Maybe if they feel it in their pocketbook, they will think twice about allowing these pages to exist!
- Appeal to some of our dear pro-Israel hacking community to take care of this problem for us.
I suggest that one reason that the page still exists is that the Shin Bet, FBI or CIA created the page in order to attract and find the crazies and get their names.
Even if that isn't the case . . . a nice rumor campaign might be all that is needed. If the crazies think that they are on a site sponsored by the US or Israeli intelligence community, they will avoid it like the plague.

March 25, 1911: The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
This was a huge tragedy that, G-d willing, will never be repeated.
The cities had grown in population, the buildings had grown in height, but the infrastructure had not changed.
Not only did the owners of the factory lock their doors, preventing the workers from escaping the flames, but the New York City fire department didn't have the equipment to rescue them--with ladders that only reached the sixth floor and fire escapes in disrepair, crumbling and detaching when the women tried to access them. One woman died trying to leap to a fireman's ladder.
The changes which came about because of this fire--safety and health regulations, labor laws, and rescue procedures--stand as the legacy of these young women who died so young.
May we never forget this tragedy, may we be ever vigilant.
If you work in a tall building, please take a few moments today to locate the fire extinguishers, escape routes, first aid boxes, portable heart defibrillators, and sprinkler systems. Check fire doors to make sure they are in working order, that they are not blocked, and that no one has affixed a lock to them.
Know how to get out of your building in the dark. Make sure your office participates in fire drills. Ask you boss about getting people in your office trained in CPR and First Aid. And, as you look around, think about the fact that 146 people, most of them young Jewish women, gave their lives so that you would have a chance to make it out of your building alive.
We must protect the vulnerable, the young, and the desperate. They too easily become victims in the world.
