MK Eldad Calls for Massive Public Pressure on Shas, Lieberman

B"H

Now's the time, people! Let's not remain silent. We must break this coalition now, or we will see the end of Israel.

There is absolutely no excuse for these so-called "religious" parties to be supporting Olmert. They must relent and leave the government.

Whoever doesn't act now, will be able to blame himself for doing nothing and going like sheep to slaughter."
MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) says that "massive public pressure" must be exerted on Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu to quit the government before Annapolis.

"We must not go like sheep to the slaughter," Eldad told Arutz-7's Hebrew newsmagazine on Wednesday. "Whoever doesn't act now, will bear the responsibility later."

Eldad, a former IDF Chief Medical Officer, says that the nationalist public must exert non-stop pressure on the Knesset Members of the Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu parties. "It must be made clear to them that the public knows they are lying to them by continuing to remain in the Olmert government," Eldad said.

The government coalition's continue existence is dependent upon the presence of both Shas, with 12 Knesset seats, and Yisrael Beiteinu, with 11. The coalition parties currently have 78 MKs; if both leave, the Kadima-led coalition will crumble, forcing new elections.

"Olmert has said categorically that all the essential issues, such as final borders, Arab refugees, Jerusalem, and more, will be on the table," Eldad said, "while on the other hand, [Yisrael Beiteinu head Avigdor] Lieberman says that he will resign if these issues are discussed. The public doesn't know which liar to believe!"

If Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu do not quit and the Annapolis summit two weeks from now leads to a Palestinian state, "this will be a crime against the Jewish people," according to Eldad. "Recognition of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River is a recipe for the destruction of the State of Israel."

Economics
"Shas has recommended that the summit deal only with economic issues," Eldad said. "But it appears that the only economic aspect of this story is Shas's presence in the government." This is a reference to the financial support for religious institutions that Shas's membership in the government guarantees. In fact, Shas MK Avraham Michaeli, asked by Arutz-7 last week why Shas does not quit the government, responded, "Ask the head of your yeshiva if he wants Shas to leave. He'll tell you no."

"The problem is," Eldad said, "that in the meantime, they [Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu] are lending a hand to the splitting up of Jerusalem."

Thousands of Emails, Etc.
"This is the time for massive public pressure," he continued. "Thousands of faxes, emails, and phone calls from immigrants from the former Soviet Union to the offices of Lieberman and his party, saying not only that they won't vote for them again, but that they will convince their friends and relatives to do the same. That's what will work."

"In addition, the residents of [the outlying Jerusalem neighborhoods of] Pisgat Ze'ev and Gilo, and of Maaleh Adumim - places that will be turned into ghettos and killing grounds amidst Arab populations if Lieberman's plan [to trade Arab-populated areas to the PA] is adopted - must also phone and send faxes and emails from wherever they can, to tell him what they think. The same with the residents of Judea and Samaria, and the same with the supporters of Shas. We're talking about our national fate, and that of each of us. Whoever doesn't act now, will be able to blame himself for doing nothing and going like sheep to slaughter."

"Sometimes we ask how the Jews of Europe did nothing but wait and hope. Whoever didn't understand them, will now be able to understand them better when he sees himself doing nothing to stop the Annapolis catastrophe."

The email addresses and fax numbers of Knesset Members appear on the Knesset website. For example:
