(IsraelNN.com) As the US continues to prepare for an international Middle East summit this coming November, concern grows in Israel that the goal is to force Israel to agree to a Palestinian state on its very doorstep, founded upon Hamas, Iranian and even Al-Qaeda influence.
The Yesha (Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria ) Council released a statement on Sunday expressing "concern at the irresponsible diplomatic moves being made during these days, the main point of which is the consent to the establishment of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria. These moves are founded upon irrelevant considerations of political survival, and are being made in total opposition to the opinion of the defense establishment."
The Council states that a Palestinian state "will inevitably fall into the hands of Hamas - leaving Ben Gurion International Airport and [the cities of] Kfar Saba and Afula vulnerable to rocket attacks."
Israel Being Pressured for Commitments
The Yesha Council calls on the Yisrael Beiteinu and Shas parties to "thwart, already now, these dangerous moves, before they gather additional momentum. We are now in a critical stage in which Israel is making promises to the Americans and other foreign elements, and it will be hard to withdraw them later. The silence of these parties at this stage renders them responsible for a catastrophic process."
In response to this call, Shas MK Nissim Ze'ev - generally known for his right-wing views but bound by party discipline to follow the party line - told Arutz-7's Hebrew radio newsmagazine, "I prefer to direct the public's attention to the words of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who said there is no chance for negotiations with the Palestinians. I therefore advise the Prime Minister to concentrate on pressing social issues and road safety, instead of wasting energy on sterile negotiations."
Yoram Ettinger, an expert on U.S.-Israel relations, has released a paper negating the prevalent theory that a Palestinian state can solve the Arab-Israeli conflict. The former liaison for Congressional affairs in Israel's Washington embassy brings proofs from recent history showing that Arab antipathy to Israel predates, and is irrelevant to, Palestinian concerns.
MK Yuval Shteinitz (Likud) told Arutz-7 on Sunday that the upcoming summit "could well lead to a Palestinian state, with clear Hamas and Iranian influence, right on the doorstep of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Ben Gurion International Airport. Even if it just serves as a small support for this idea, the summit is something that we must not allow."
Just recently, former IDF Intelligence Chief Gen. (res.) Aharon Ze'evi-Farkash said that his office had warned that a pullout from Gaza could lead to a Hamas take-over, "but apparently, everyone read [in our reports] what was convenient for him to read."
